Winner of the 2006 Ms Malaika beauty pageant, Ms Hamamat Montia, has launched a new project, the Zuzu and Sasa book series, to improve literacy and self-confidence among children aged under seven years.

She said she was committed to raising future leaders who were well read and confident, and as such she was currently developing a project to build libraries across the country to grant children easy access to books.

“We would like the book to grow to a point where it can support our long-term goal of building a network of libraries across the country and, especially in the northern parts of Ghana,” Ms Montia said at the launch on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 in Accra to coincide with International Women’s Day.

Internationally renowned evangelist Dr Lawrence Tetteh who was a guest at the launch, lauded Ms Montia for her initiative. “This is what we need as a nation. We need something that is Ghanaian, we need something that is African, and we need something that we can identify with. I endorse it because it is laudable,” he said.

About the book series
Zuzu and Sasa is a children’s book series that highlights the everyday adventures of two Ghanaian sisters, Zuzu and Sasa, with stories that are a collection of the experiences shared and narrated by the girls.

Their journey offers lessons, fun and exposure as they embark on travels across the African continent with their mother, who is a philanthropist and makes an impact through her work. Each destination teaches them something new about the 54 countries on the African continent.
